EXPEDITION YORKSHIRE Edinburgh to York

EXPEDITION YORKSHIRE Edinburgh to York

All tours are to be treated as outlines only, depending on the interests of the group, weather, road closures, etc., changes can be made. I always make sure that any variation is only in the interests of the group having the very best possible time.
Also note that frequent restroom stops are built into the itinerary.

Edinburgh to York: The Classic Transfer Tour

Not just travelling between two brilliant cities in a day--Edinburgh and York--but two amazing countries--Scotland & England. The premise is simple yet compelling, especially with the stunning landscapes and fascinating sites that may be visited along the way.
The real beauty of this tour is the efficient use it makes of your holiday time
On first inspection, it may appear quicker to take the train. While the train is a great option for some, by the time you have caught a taxi, hauled your luggage to the correct platform at the station, and done the same again at the other end, you have spent nearly a full day travelling, missing out on historic sites such as Hadrian’s Wall, Bamburgh Castle, the wild Scottish border country or the other wonderful sites and landscapes we travel through along the way.
A typical tour would include leaving Edinburgh at 9.00am (collection time can be adjusted)
After collecting you from your hotel in Edinburgh (call for other locations) we make our way south, the exact route being decided on the day of travel. We always take into account weather and road, conditions as well as your interests. After all this is a private tour, so we can maximise your experience in ways that are simply not possible on the large public tours.
We then head into some of the wildest and most starkly beautiful terrain & landscape Scotland & England have to offer,
Typically we leave the city behind and head down through the romantic and historic lands of Scottish Border Country passing by rivers, moors, mountains, ancient battle fields and ruined abbeys as we head south towards England.
However, it’s also possible to follow an alternative route and head down the coast taking in spectacular sights such as Lindisfarne Holy Island (tide times permitting), Bamburgh Castle and Durham Cathedral.

On Crossing the Border, which is always a special occasion between these two great nations, with many photo opportunities to be had, we swiftly tour down through Northumberland one of England’s most sparsely populated and beautiful counties. This is where we discover the almost two millennia old Hadrian’s wall in the magnificent Northumberland National Park.

Then lunch, and off to York!
After lunch which is typically a cosy country pub (You can always choose what you wish to do for lunch), we push south toward The Yorkshire Dales National Park or the edge of the north York Moors, and end the day in York a city which is drenched in the richest of histories and should be included in any well-constructed tour of England.
We look forward to welcoming you aboard in the near future!

York to Edinburgh

This tour is perfect for those who wish to explore the United Kingdom from South to North rather than North to South. Simply start in York, completing all of the Edinburgh to York tour but in the opposite direction.
‘The Classic Transfer Tour’ is a one-way journey. Therefore, accommodation or onward plans will need to be arranged upon arriving in Edinburgh or York. We do NOT return to the city in which the transfer tour began.
