Fell, Valley and Castle Tour

Up and over we go as we drive across the stunning passes, and experience the ancient fell landscapes of the one of Europe’s most beautiful national parks, The Yorkshire Dales National Park. We take in the sights of various ancient villages, as well as the foreboding Bolton Castle, through remote Swaledale, and on to the historic town of Richmond.
For your convenience, Expedition Yorkshire will happily collect your group from your central York hotel at 9.00am,
Although pickup time can be adjusted according to your group’s wishes. Please contact us by email or phone with any special requests.
We arrive in the sublimely delightful, peaceful market town of Masham
A perfect place for a swift tea or coffee before we adventure into the rugged and inspiring beauty of the Dales. Our journey from here takes us through idyllic villages, across remote moors via ancient woodland and mighty waterfalls.
We typically stop in Askrigg for lunch, a village so old it features in the famous Domesday Book of AD 1086
Then we arrive at the stark, eerie and historically fascinating Bolton Castle, where none other than Mary Queen of Scots was held prisoner. After a little time to explore the exterior of the castle we head out of the charming Wensleydale and over into the remote and charismatic landscape of Swaledale

After wending our way down the length of Swaledale, we find ourselves in the historic hill town of Richmond
If you’re from Richmond Virginia or Richmond London, you’ll be amazed to discover this is none other than the first Richmond in the world! Explore its dramatic and ancient castle and perhaps enjoy a quiet pint in one of its quintessentially English public houses, also known as a “pub”.
From Richmond, sit back, relax, and enjoy the fantastic onboard snacks, and before you know it, we will be back in the glorious, historic city of York
Should you wish and if weather conditions suit, we can finish the day with a little guided meander along the city’s historic walls (at no extra cost), affording you heroic views of the Minster and beyond.
