All tours are to be treated as outlines only, depending on the interests of the group, weather, road closures, etc., changes can be made. I always make sure that any variation is only in the interests of the group having the very best possible time.
Also note that frequent restroom stops are built into the itinerary.
Meet the people that take you on your memorable journey through Yorkshire
At Expedition Yorkshire, we are extremely fortunate to have a team of brilliant tour guides who, although come from different backgrounds, have a shared wide knowledge of the wonderful county of Yorkshire and beyond!
Introducing our guides
Your Expedition will be guided by a highly trained area expert guide :
Andrew Ward Guide & Founder
Previously based in London, for seven years Andrew lead countless tours to Stonehenge, Bath, The Cotswolds, Stratford-Upon- Avon, Canterbury and Oxford with The English Bus.
Whilst leading these tours, I spoke to more than six thousand amazing guests from around the world. And in our many conversations, I discovered that few had planned to visit York, and even fewer its surrounding wild landscapes, high hills and rugged coast. I was gobsmacked - This seemed like an awful mission when you have come so far to visit England and miss some of its most magnificent heritage & terrain. I wanted to change this.
I was part of a very small team that helped make The English Bus Trip Advisor’s Travellers Choice # 1 Tour in the UK
It occurred to me that public transport to these areas ranges from challenging to non-existent. The routes are complicated, and the roads are a serious risk for anyone not used to driving on the left-hand side of the road. Expedition Yorkshire aims to deliver tours that solve all these problems and go far beyond, creating incredible days that will form beautiful memories which last a lifetime.
Here’s to showing you around Yorkshire and beyond onboard our stunning, safe, state of the art vehicle this season.

Founder Expedition Yorkshire
Richard Marsden Senior Guide
Richard was born, raised and schooled in and around Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, before spending 5 years at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne Dental School where he graduated as a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1986. He then spent his dental vocational training year in Kirkby Stephen and Appleby, Cumbria (becoming a member of the Kirkby Stephen Fell Search team) before moving to North Yorkshire where he worked as a family dentist firstly in Pickering and then, for over 30 years, in Malton. In other words, Richard has lived his whole life in the North of England and he wouldn’t have it any other way! He is very proud of his Yorkshire roots and loves his county.
"One of the best tour guides I have ever come across"
Post retirement from dentistry, Richard has put his knowledge of Yorkshire and love of history to good use becoming our Senior Guide at Expedition Yorkshire (where guests have enjoyed his local accent as well as his local knowledge!). He is also a tour guide at Scampston Hall near Malton.
Richard and his wife Sarah love to travel in their spare time, by train wherever possible, and also enjoy musical theatre, running, yoga and walking (especially in the Yorkshire Dales).
His favourite English city is Cambridge (he has visited many times and is now very capable with a punt!).
Richard is extremely happy to be working with Expedition Yorkshire and tells us that he is always confident that his guests will love the Yorkshire villages, towns and countryside on the trips just as much as he does.’
