Previously based in London, for seven years Andrew lead countless tours to Stonehenge, Bath, The Cotswolds, Stratford-Upon- Avon, Canterbury and Oxford with The English Bus.  

 

Whilst leading these tours, I spoke to more than six thousand amazing guests from around the world. And in our many conversations, I discovered that few had planned to visit York, and even fewer its surrounding wild landscapes, high hills and rugged coast. I was gobsmacked - This seemed like an awful mission when you have come so far to visit England and miss some of its most magnificent heritage & terrain. I wanted to change this. 

It occurred to me that public transport to these areas ranges from challenging to non-existent. The routes are complicated, and the roads are a serious risk for anyone not used to driving on the left-hand side of the road. Expedition Yorkshire aims to deliver tours that solve all these problems and go far beyond, creating incredible days that will form beautiful memories which last a lifetime. 

 

Here’s to showing you around Yorkshire and beyond onboard our stunning, safe, state of the art vehicle this season.

Richard was born, raised and schooled in and around Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, before attending the University of Newcastle upon Tyne Dental School where he graduated as a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. He spent his career as a dentist firstly in Pickering and then, for over 30 years, in Malton. In other words, Richard has lived his whole life in the North of England and he wouldn’t have it any other way! He is very proud of his Yorkshire roots and loves his county. 

 

Post retirement from dentistry, Richard has enjoyed working in different part time jobs - he currently does presentations for his friend’s IT company, is a tour guide at Scampston Hall, and is extremely happy to be joining Andrew’s team at Expedition Yorkshire where he hopes the guests will enjoy both his local knowledge and his local accent! 

Richard and his wife, Sarah, a teacher, love to travel in their spare time, by train wherever possible, and also enjoy musical theatre, yoga, running and walking (especially in the Yorkshire Dales). 

 

Richard’s favourite English city is Cambridge (he has visited many times and is now very capable with a punt!) and he has also enjoyed visiting Sri Lanka twice recently where he is a board member for the forest conservation charity ‘The Forest Healing Foundation’. He loves wildlife and the wilderness and hopes through the work of the charity to help in a small way to preserve the wonderful biodiversity of the island. 

 

Richard is very excited to be working with Expedition Yorkshire and is confident that his guests will love the Yorkshire towns and countryside on the trips as much as he does.
